This course provides a clear road map to designers of PBL units (teachers and their librarian partners or curriculum staff). Learn how to design and guide the middle part of the process where students learn from their inquiry and research. Using Guided Inquiry Design for Project Based Learning, your students will come from an informed and educated perspective as they work toward their project end goal. Don’t we want that for all our learners?

Why Guided Inquiry Design in Project Based Learning?

The “gold standard” for Project Based Learning (PBL) includes “sustained inquiry” as a core foundation. Guided Inquiry Design (GID) is a research backed instructional design for sustained inquiry. Using Guided Inquiry Design to design your PBL units will give you the compass to guide inquiry in your unit plans. Get the most out of PBL units through inquiry, questioning, and research at just the right time in the process.

Dr. Leslie Maniotes is ready to guide your learning!

Who should attend?

The course was created for teachers, teacher librarians, subject or classroom teachers, curriculum specialists, school leaders, department heads and other support people (literacy, gifted, SPeD, technology, instructional coaches…) in both Primary and Secondary settings.

For individuals, the course works great as a self guided course. Work at your own pace as you set your goals, reflect on your practice in the course workbook and apply the ideas in the course to an upcoming unit of study that you are planning. By the end you’ll be inspired to add research to your PBL with no worries! If you complete this course as an individual there will be the opportunity for a live whole group post course catch up with Dr Leslie Maniotes to answer any questions you may have and to help you plan next steps in your Guided Inquiry Design journey.

For whole school professional learning, this course is perfect for schools looking to focus their PBL units to include sustained inquiry and research. Contact us to enquire about Leslie joining your whole school or whole team PD sessions as you use the videos and workbook exercises to drive planning, and instructional design of PBL units. The conversations about the course will help teams apply this right to their work and build community around the practice. The course can be used for teams, small groups, departments or school wide professional learning.

  • 2.5 hours of asynchronous self-directed course content
  • Downloadable workbook
